The Fitness Holiday Thailand’s tips on building stronger bones

Bone food

Bone is living tissue, just like our muscles, that means that they both respond to  exercise and can both  become stronger. Men and woman who exercise regularly can achieve greater peak bone mass ( bone density and strength) than those who do not. The average persons bone mass peaks at around the age of thirty years old. After our thirties  we  begin to lose bone density.

We can help prevent our  loss of bone density  with regular exercise, this also  allows us to maintain muscle strength, coordination and balance. Regular exercise helps to prevent falls and related fractures,  especially important for older adults and people who have been diagnosed with bone wasting diseases.

The best sort of exercise to improve your bone density is the weight-bearing kind, these types of exercise force you to work against gravity. Good examples of weight-bearing exercises include weight training, walking, hiking, jogging, tennis and dancing.

All these types of exercise are also great at getting you into the fresh air and the sun shine. The sunshine is also another brilliant way to keep your bones strong.    Most people have heard that sunlight produces vitamin D when it is absorbed into  our skin.

what is vitamin D

What is vitamin D? Vitamin D  has two very important functions, firstly, it reinforces our structural system and  secondly , it boosts our immune system. Vitamin D  also helps to densify the bone structure in conjunction with calcium. Another reason to get into the sunshine and exercise is white blood cells become more active throughout the body when given sufficient vitamin D, this in turn makes your immune system stronger.

At the Fitness Holiday Thailand our boot camp programme is carried out in the open air and includes all the bone strengthening exercise you can think of. You will get stacks of vitamin D to build those bones and boost your immune system plus walking, weight bearing and strength exercise, yoga, Pilate’s and many many more.

To your very good health
