Get a good nights sleep

long term sleep deprivation can cause the body to increase its insulin resistance, especially in people who may be genetically more prone to diabetes. A study by the University of Chicago found that people  who slept for less than 6 hours a night were at the highest risk. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night for the best defence against this life shattering illness.

A further study by the Health Foundation has found that, when healthy young men slept only 4 hours a night for 6 nights in a row, their insulin and blood sugar levels mimicked those seen in people who were developing diabetes. If you already have diabetes, a pattern of sleep-deprivation only further contributes to a flux in blood sugars.

De stress

Stress is a risk factor for many reasons and diseases including diabetes. When your body deals with stress it releases  hormones that increases blood sugar levels. This increase is okay in short doses but given over a long period can be dangerous to your health. Regularly practicing deep breathing exercises , meditation, listening to calming music or getting a massage can reduce your overall blood sugar.

Omega 3

Omega 3 fatty acids found in foods like oily fish such as sardines and salmon can improve insulin sensitivity. You should be looking to eat at least 2 portions of this type of food stuff a week.   As one gets older, type 2 diabetes is more likely if one is overweight or has high blood pressure (hypertension), elevated blood lipids, and a sedentary lifestyle. With 17 million people having diabetes, better prevention and treatment are urgently needed. New evidence indicates that the oils in fat-rich fish may help combat this scourge.
