Fitness Holiday Thailand Interval training benefits
Here at the Fitness Holiday we are all about making exercise more interesting and motivating. I go for my regular four mile run twice a week , trotting around the same roads and tracks at the same pace and generally finding it a bit ‘samey’, well at least i used to any way.
I have now introduced some interval training into my jogs, and boy does it make a difference. It has done wonders for my fitness and is great at putting some ‘zing’ back into those well trodden running routes.
so, what is interval training?
Interval training is a style of physical training that involves quick bursts of high-intensity work followed by periods of low-intensity work. The high-intensity periods are usually at near to-maximum exertion, while the recovery period involves either complete rest or exercising at lower intensity.
Interval training can provide benefits to any one who wants to improve their fitness, health, stamina or get rid of that last bit of annoying fat or weight. It can be very demanding and certainly not what you would want to go straight into without a bit of preparation and advice, that’s where the Fitness holiday comes in.
So, where do we start? What i do, when i am on my usual run, is find a road or track which is lined with fence posts, lamp posts or telegraph poles, basically any thing that is an equal distance apart , about 20-50 metres apart is best.
Once i have warmed up and completed about half the distance i am going to run, i find my first Marker post and increase my pace by about a quarter then half pace and finally a sprint. I then return to my normal pace or a bit slower, this is classed as my rest period, if you are just starting out then perhaps you can walk during your rest period. As i move along my marker posts i then increase my pace for the length of one marker post and then decrease for another, and so on.
As you become fitter, you can increase the distance you heighten your pace, for example, sprint for 2 marker post lengths and jog/walk for one.
You can introduce interval training to just about any form of cardiovascular work outs, cycling, swimming and rowing, just about anything really.
So, if you want to improve your fitness levels, boost your metabolism and lose weight fast, put some interval training into your workouts.
