pulses, lentils and beans all great protein sources

Nothing  has been as misunderstood and  misrepresented as protein, say’s Richard Thomas, the nutritional advisor and menu designer of the Fitness Holiday boot camp . It’s considered by most people as the foundation of nutrition and  essential to life. The importance of eating enough protein, primarily from animal sources, is drilled into us. But, did you know that there are other foods rich in protein apart from meat? Try these vegetable based ones

Nuts and seeds. These are a great  supply  of meat free protein, for example,  almonds, pumpkin seeds,  sunflower seeds and pine nuts are an excellent source of good  healthy protein. At the fitness boot camp Thailand we give our guests a daily snack of nuts and fruit every day, as well as the super healthy main meals, just to make sure you are getting enough protein rich food..

Grains. These are great as an alternative protein source to meat, try  quinoa, amaranth, oats, wheat, or spelt.

Legumes. These little wonders can give you 12 – 15 grams of protein per cup. There are loads of different varieties of beans and lentils around and thousands of ways to prepare them. Our guests enjoy a wonderful lentil soup during their weight loss boot camp.

Not just the meat protein

Obviously you can get loads of protein from fish, meat and poultry sources, this article is just a reminder that you can get protein from many different food origins, not just the obvious meat ones.

Here at the fitness retreat Thailand we give you salmon, tuna, lentils, chicken, tofu, oats and just about every conceivable protein source imaginable. We do however cater for vegetarians! Most people are eating protein when they don’t even realize it and do not fully understand its importance or where it can be found.
